Man Utd renew transfer interest in £40m star after missing out on 2023 deal

According to Metro, Manchester United have once again shown interest in Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, more than 18 months after initially missing out on his signing.

Back in 2023, United was close to securing Suzuki, having reached an agreement with his former club, Urawa Red Diamonds.

However, with the arrival of Andre Onana from Inter Milan, Suzuki chose to move to Belgian side Sint-Truidense VV, fearing limited playing opportunities at United.

Suzuki shared his thoughts in an interview with Japanese Soccer Digest Web, saying, "My dream is to play in the Premier League.

Although I received an offer from Manchester United, they had already signed Onana, so I wanted to play at a level where I could get more game time."

He also expressed his long-term ambitions, saying, "Though I can't join them right now, I aim to play there in a few years.

To take it step by step, I chose to move to Belgium."

After an impressive season with Sint-Truidense VV, where he featured in 32 games, Suzuki earned a move to Parma for £8.5 million, signing a five-year contract.

His performances in Serie A have once again drawn attention, including from Manchester United. It's reported that United may be willing to offer around £40 million to secure the 22-year-old goalkeeper.

Despite Onana being firmly established as United's number one goalkeeper, his tenure has been marked by some high-profile mistakes.

Backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir stepped up in Onana's absence for United's FA Cup win over Arsenal, earning praise for his crucial saves, including one against Martin Ødegaard in the penalty shootout.

Discussion on Bayindir's performance, Amorim remarked, "Your career as a footballer has its ups and downs, and sometimes in a single week, everything can change.

Take Altay, for example. A few weeks ago, people were criticizing him after the Tottenham match, and I understand why. Today, however, he became our hero."

Amorim added, "He's a hard-working guy, and life can surprise you in beautiful ways. Just a few weeks ago, we were going through a tough period, but now he's a hero for us."

He concluded by saying, "Every player on this team is fortunate to play for Manchester United. Whether it's one game or ninety, it's always a privilege to represent this club."
