Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
Torizone reports that the announcement was made on Friday in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.
According to Oyelade, Owoade's selection followed extensive consultations and traditional divinations carried out by the Oyomesi, the Oyo kingmakers.
"Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been recommended by the Oyomesi and approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo after thorough consultations and divinations," the statement read.
Ademola Ojo, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, highlighted that the decision resolves the disputes that arose following the passing of the former Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who died on April 22, 2022.
"This appointment concludes the socio-legal controversies that have persisted since the demise of Oba Adeyemi. We call on the people of Oyo State to support the new Alaafin and join in celebrating this historic event," Ojo remarked.
Oyelade also expressed confidence in the new monarch's reign, hoping it would bring peace, unity, and development to the Oyo Kingdom.
"We trust that his reign will foster progress and harmony in Oyo and uphold the rich legacy of the Alaafin institution," he said.
The people of Oyo State have been encouraged to support the new Alaafin as he begins his reign over the historic kingdom.
