In a move aimed at enhancing its military independence, Israel has signed two significant agreements with Elbit Systems, an arms contractor, to bolster the Israeli Defense Forces' (IDF) operational capabilities.
These agreements, valued at approximately $275 million (NIS 1 billion), focus on reducing Israel's reliance on foreign supplies for essential military resources.
Under the first deal, Elbit will supply thousands of heavy air munitions to the Israeli Air Force.
According to Times of Israel, this step is seen as crucial, especially after a hold-up of a heavy bomb shipment from the United States.
By securing these weapons locally, Israel aims to reduce its dependence on external suppliers.
The second deal involves the establishment of a national raw materials plant by Elbit. This facility will produce critical raw materials that were previously sourced primarily from abroad.
With advanced production lines for energetic materials, this new plant will enhance the country's domestic manufacturing capabilities and ensure a steady supply of defense materials, reinforcing Israel's independence in defense production.
These initiatives are seen as key to strengthening the IDF's endurance and force-building capabilities, ensuring that the military is less vulnerable to disruptions in global supply chains.
