Ruben Amorim has confirmed exciting transfer attempt as Man Utd 'push' to sign £34m star

Ruben Amorim has already made it clear that Man Utd will look to be active in January amid the emergence of his reported priority target.

Manchester United are pushing to recruit Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes this month as Ruben Amorim eyes his first signing at the club, according to reports. Amorim has already confirmed that the Red Devils will try to complete business and start his rebuild early in the January transfer window.

The Portuguese head coach has learned his desperate need for reinforcements the hard way in the first few weeks of his reign at Old Trafford.

And he has revealed that he will try to start reshaping the squad built by Erik ten Hag before the January deadline if the right opportunity arises.

"When the window is open, we can try to do something, and we will try to do something," Amorim explained last week.

"But I think, in the next weeks, we are going to have more time to train, and we can improve; that's the only way.

"We had a lot of games without training; now we will have more space to grow. You can see that the context is worse at this moment, as we had a lot of losses, so we have to manage everything."

Amorim later remained coy on which positions he was hoping to bolster this winter but reaffirmed his hope of some transfer activity.

He added: "I will keep that [the positions United are targeting] to myself. But we'll try to do something."

Man Utd want to sign PSG left-back Nuno Mendes.

A left-wing-back that suits his 3-4-3 system and a striker have been widely mooted as two priority areas to address in 2025.

Amorim has had to call on Diogo Dalot to fulfil the former role since his arrival in November. Luke Shaw continues to be hampered by injuries, while Tyrell Malacia is struggling after an 18-month lay-off.

According to The Telegraph, the 39-year-old wants to tend to the problem by reuniting with Mendes in Manchester this month.

He worked with the 22-year-old at Sporting before PSG completed a £34million swoop in 2022 and views him as the ideal fit.

PSG are reportedly struggling to persuade Mendes to extend his current contract at the Parc des Princes, which has entered the final 18 months.

The Ligue 1 champions are said to have held several discussions with United but hope he won't demand a transfer to a club absent from the Champions League.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Mendes joins Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez and Lecce youngster Patrick Dorgu on Amorim's shortlist.

The 20-year-old Dane isn't thought to be as high on the list as Mendes and Kerkez but represents a cheaper option.
