According to report, the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, delivered a message of hope and divine assurance to the people of the state during the crossover service at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Opobo Town. Speaking to worshippers in the early hours of Wednesday, Fubara expressed unwavering confidence in God's ability to defeat the adversaries of the state and its people.
Fubara began his speech at the occasion with a song of worship which the congregation joined to sing. He raised the song:
"At the mention of Your name (God), every knee shall bow. At the mention of Your name, every tongue confess. That You are Lord, You are King of kings."
According to him, the wordings of the song were not just consolatory but also a charge to the people to strengthen their trust in God, who alone, can make them triumph in the New Year.
Reinforcing his faith in divine intervention for a victorious 2025, the governor said:
"The Red Biro is still filled. It is still here with me. Every plan of the enemy will continue to crash,"
The service, conducted by Bishop Emmanuel Oko-Jaja of the Niger Delta Anglican Diocese, reflected on the trials of 2024 - conspiracy, blackmail, economic hardship, and near-hopeless situations.
Yet, the bishop reminded the congregation that none of these challenges overwhelmed God's faithful. "God has given us a new song of triumph," he proclaimed, urging gratitude for the past and hope for the future.
Bishop Oko-Jaja prayed for the peace, unity, and progress of Rivers State, aligning his petitions with the government's ambitious 2025 Budget of Inclusive Growth and Development. As the clock struck midnight, the church erupted with shouts of "Happy New Year," ushering in 2025 with joy, praise, and renewed faith.
