Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu was allegedly listed among the world's most corrupt figures by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).
This list was created after a global call for nominations of individuals involved in increasing criminal activities and worsening poverty.
Tinubu ranked third on this list, after Kenya's President William Ruto and former Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Accusations and Public Concerns
Tinubu's inclusion on this list was largely due to actions taken during his tenure as governor of Lagos and more recently as President of Nigeria. Notably, his administration initiated a highly controversial multitrillion-naira road project awarded to a company owned by his son.
This project, known as the Lagos-Calabar route, became one of Nigeria's most ambitious yet contentious infrastructure endeavours.
The project's scale and the familial connections involved did little to assuage public concerns about the potential misappropriation of state funds.
Moreover, Tinubu's past, marked by allegations of involvement in cocaine trafficking in Chicago and accusations of certificate forgery, also played a role in the nomination process, underscoring the lasting impact of his earlier actions on his public image and political career.
Despite these serious charges, Tinubu has consistently denied all allegations of corruption linked to his name.
As of the last updates, a spokesperson for Mr Tinubu had not responded to inquiries about his recognition as a major organised crime figure by the OCCRP, leaving the public and media awaiting further comments.
