Ademola Lookman is in the best form of his life and a Super Eagles icon believes Atalanta have a dilemma on what to do with the African Player of the Year.
Former Nigeria international Taye Taiwo has made a compelling case for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman to consider leaving Atalanta BC during the upcoming January transfer window.
Taiwo, who has a wealth of experience in European football, believes that now is the perfect time for Lookman to make a move away from Bergamo, given his outstanding performances for the Serie A leaders.
Lookman has been a decisive player in Atalanta's challenge for the Serie A title and was recently crowned as the 2024 African Player of the Year award.
His impressive form this campaign has seen him score 12 goals and five assists in just 20 appearances, making him one of the standout players in Europe.
However, Taiwo suggests that while Atalanta may want to keep their star player for their title push, it could be financially beneficial for the club to sell Lookman before he enters the final year of his contract.
"The situation is delicate for Lookman and Atalanta," Taiwo stated in an interview with Africafoot.
"The club is in a good position to win Serie A, and they will surely not want to part ways with their best player. However, if you think in terms of financial benefits, the timing is perfect."
Speaking further, the 39-year-old added that the versatile AFCON 2023 star is one of the most in-demand players and won't struggle to find suitors.
"He is one of the most high-profile players in Europe, and many clubs would do anything to sign him," Taiwo added.
Taiwo's advice comes as both Lookman and fellow Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen, who has also been advised to leave Galatasaray in January by the Nigerian icon, are attracting significant interest from top European clubs.
With January approaching, Taiwo believes that this window presents an opportunity for both players to elevate their careers and secure moves that align with their ambitions and match their current statuses.
