Gas cylinder explosion kills apprentice at vulcanizer shop, injures two in Minna

A tragic gas cylinder explosion on Christmas Day at a vulcanizer shop in Kpakungun, a suburb of Minna, claimed the life of Zakari Aliyu and left two others injured.

The shop owner, Mohammed Usman Baba, and his son, Umar Mohammed, were also injured in the incident, which occurred while the gas cylinder was being charged after use.

Eyewitness Faisal Avuya recounted the event, stating that Zakari, an apprentice at the shop, attempted to cool the overheating cylinder by pouring water on it.

However, the cylinder exploded on contact, causing fatal injuries to Zakari and wounding the others.

"The explosion was devastating; it scattered Zakari's body," Avuya told The Nation.

The two injured victims were rushed to a local hospital. Umar Mohammed, the shop owner's son, sustained serious stomach injuries and is expected to undergo surgery.
