Spider-Man Is Very Ready to Reinvent a Marvel Villain That Every Fan of the Sam Raimi Trilogy Loves

Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy with Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield's versions of Spider-Man from No Way Home at each side

Warning: Contains potential spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man #15!

Marvel Comics' current Ultimate Universe is officially about to welcome a classic Spider-Man villain to its growing cast, with a Raimiverse character finally set to make a smashing debut. The final entry in Sam Raimi's trilogy, Spider-Man 3 from 2007, featured a few different antagonists that Peter Parker had to face off against, and the messiest one is about to wreak havoc on Peter and his family.

Marvel has released new details about Ultimate Spider-Man #15 - written by Jonathan Hickman, with art by David Messina - which officially reboots another iconic villain for this version of Spidey's expanding rogues gallery, as Marco Checchetto's action-packed cover provides the first look at the new Sandman in the Ultimate Universe.

THE ULTIMATE SANDMAN ATTACKS! As the dust settles from the events of recent issues, Peter, MJ and the kids take a family vacation - but nowhere is safe for Ultimate Spider-Man! Featuring guest artist David Messina!

On the cover, Spider-Man swings around with his young daughter holding on tight as they narrowly avoid the Sandman's destruction. When the Parkers take a trip after an all-new take on Spidey's first run-in with Kraven the Hunter, Peter can't escape his superhero destiny.

Ultimate Sandman Makes His Destructive Debut, Spoiling A Perfectly Nice Parker Family Vacation

The Sandman is one of the most famous Spider-Man villains of all-time, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko back in Amazing Spider-Man #4, and his Ultimate Universe introduction is an exciting development for Hickman's series. Though details are still scarce on this new version of the sand-powered Marvel villain, the new Sandman looks to be an immediate threat to Peter's family on their vacation. Since MJ and the kids know Peter's superhero secret, they could wind up even more at risk when the Ultimate Sandman attacks, as already previewed in the cover for Ultimate Spider-Man #15, with Mayday Parker.

With decades of Marvel history, and a memorable big screen debut as played by Thomas Haden Church, the Sandman was bound to enter Earth-6160's canon eventually. However, there seem to be some key differences between this variant and the main continuity version already. Since Sandman will hit the scene with the Parkers on a vacation, he likely won't be based in the New York area, and also isn't a part of the budding Ultimate Sinister Six despite being in the original lineup. This Sandman could go by the classic alias Flint Marko, William Baker, or be an all-new character entirely.

The Villains of Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3" Could All Be Descending Upon The Ultimate Spider-Man Series

The 2007 Film Featured Sandman, Green Goblin, & Venom As Antagonists

Ultimate Spider-Man looms behind the Ultimate Green Goblin.

Sandman is actually the last villain that prominently appeared in Raimi's trilogy to be teased for Ultimate Spider-Man, and those who fought Peter in Spider-Man 3 will be heavily featured one year into this new timeline's comic run. A tech version of Venom is slowly creeping into Peter's life, and although Harry Osborn's Green Goblin has taken a heroic turn in the Ultimate Universe, his persona could still flip anytime now. As just the latest reinvention of a classic Spidey antagonist, the Ultimate Sandman is guaranteed to shake up Peter's new life as a happy and seemingly well-adjusted family man.

Whichever way the Ultimate Sandman takes shape, a bold new version of the iconic Spider-Man villain is going to dust up a grand debut in the expanding Ultimate Universe.

As he flips a bunch of cars and endangers Mayday Parker, in Checchetto's cover art for Ultimate Spider-Man #15, the new take on Sandman is set to be a terrifying force to be reckoned with. That is, if the issue's cover art is to be taken at face value and isn't a fakeout masking a truly different reimagining of the sand-manipulating character. Whichever way the Ultimate Sandman takes shape, a bold new version of the iconic Spider-Man villain is going to dust up a grand debut in the expanding Ultimate Universe.
