Man Utd can give the No. 10 shirt to three players after Marcus Rashford 'put up for sale'

COMMENT: Man Utd have three candidates to inherit the No. 10 shirt if Marcus Rashford leaves the club next year.

Marcus Rashford's No. 10 shirt could soon be free.

The No. 10 shirt could soon be vacant in the Manchester United dressing room amid the club's reported plans to sell Marcus Rashford in January. Ruben Amorim is said to have decided the 27-year-old must depart Old Trafford as part of Ineos' cultural reboot that has already seen change en masse off the pitch.

Rashford has made 426 appearances since graduating from United's academy under Louis van Gaal in 2016, scoring 138 senior goals.

He has also accumulated 60 caps for England but has lost his spot in the Three Lions set-up during a startling slump since a career-best 30-goal season in 2022/23.

And Rashford's status in Amorim's plans is now in serious doubt, too, ahead of the winter transfer window.

Express Sport looks at three candidates to inherit the No. 10 shirt if he seals an emotional exit in the new year or summer.

Amad

Amad has donned the No. 16 shirt since 2021, but that is no shirt for United's current best attacke- United's current best player.

The 22-year-old looks destined to become a crucial cog in Amorim's 3-4-3 system, and he will deserve a shirt upgrade if he maintains his recent form.

Amad has shone as the right-wing-back since Amorim took charge, but he has also made an impact in his preferred, more advanced role behind the striker.

There isn't a number that screams that inside forward/attacking midfield position more than 10. It would be a hugely popular switch.

Amad could be in line for a Man Utd shirt upgrade.

Alejandro Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho joined Rashford in being excluded from the United squad for Sunday's derby victory against Manchester City.

But unlike the latter, the 20-year-old winger is expected to have a big future at Old Trafford if he continues on his promising trajectory.

Garnacho is United's top goalscorer this season, netting eight times in all competitions, and is due an upgrade from the No. 17.

He was surprisingly snubbed when Erik ten Hag handed the No. 7 shirt to Mason Mount last year, but he will again be in the frame if Rashford's number becomes available.

Viktor Gyokeres

United's next No. 10 might not even be at the club yet.

It would be a surprise if Amorim didn't target at least one Sporting reunion next summer, and superstar striker Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly near the top of his wishlist.

After scoring 47 goals in as many Portuguese league games since joining from Coventry City last year, the Swede would demand a prominent shirt number.

Rasmus Hojlund is United's No. 9, while Joshua Zirkzee wears the No. 11. The No. 10 would have Gyokeres' name all over it if Rashford makes way.
