Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has beaten Ademola Lookman to Marca's Best African Players award.
Ademola Lookman has been in tremendous form for Atalanta, both last season and so far this season.
The Super Eagles star helped his club win their first European trophy in history, scoring a hattrick in the final of the Europa League.
The winger has now scored eight goals and four assists in his first 13 games for Atalanta this season.
Salah wins award
Salah has been named the Best African Footballer of the 2023-2024 season, with seven African players included in the list.
According to Marca, the Egyptian international finished 31st in the overall ranking with 1,211 points.
More than 100 international journalists, commentators, and former football players made up the jury that decided the vote.
Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior came first in the overall ranking by Marca, with Jude Bellingham finishing second and Rodri coming third.
Nigerian international Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen, who finished the previous season with 21 goals and 10 assists, is the second-ranked African player.
Serhou Guirassy, of Stuttgart, is currently the third-ranked African player, while Ademola Lookman, the CAF POTY favourite, is ranked 65th in the world.
