The Russian Defense Ministry has announced significant losses for the Ukrainian armed forces in the ongoing conflict near the Kursk border region. In the past 24 hours, over 200 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed, while three others have reportedly surrendered, according to a statement released on Saturday.
"Over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian army's losses totaled over 200 personnel," the ministry stated. It also reported the destruction of key military assets, including one tank, a U.S. made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, an armored combat vehicle, seven motor vehicles, two artillery guns, one mortar, and an enemy electronic warfare station.
According to reports from TASS, the ministry further detailed cumulative losses suffered by the Ukrainian military since the fighting began in the Kursk frontline area. According to the statement, Ukraine has lost over 40,460 troops in the region, along with a significant number of military assets.
"Since the start of hostilities in the Kursk frontline area, the enemy has lost more than 40,460 troops, 240 tanks, 178 infantry fighting vehicles, 125 armored personnel carriers, 1,253 armored combat vehicles, 1,131 motor vehicles, 311 artillery weapons, and 40 multiple rocket launchers," the ministry reported.
Among the destroyed rocket launchers are 11 U.S. made HIMARS systems and six MLRS units, underscoring the involvement of advanced Western-supplied military technology in the conflict.
The statement from the Russian Defense Ministry paints a grim picture of the ongoing battle in the Kursk region, emphasizing the high cost of the Ukrainian campaign. The losses on the Ukrainian side, including personnel and equipment, highlight the intensity of the fighting in this strategic area.
The Kursk border region has become a focal point in the broader conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides vying for control of key territories. The figures reported by the Russian Defense Ministry, however, could not be independently verified, as both sides of the conflict continue to release conflicting narratives regarding casualties and military achievements.
