Bayern Munich cruised to an emphatic 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk at Veltins Arena in their final UEFA Champions' League group stage match, overturning an early deficit to dominate proceedings.
Shakhtar delivered an early shock when Oleksandr Zubkov played a precise through ball to Kevin, who confidently finished past Bayern goalkeeper Daniel Peretz to give the hosts a surprising lead within five minutes. Bayern, however, responded swiftly. In the 10th minute, Konrad Laimer capitalized on a scramble in the box, firing in the equalizer to make it 1-1.
Although Shakhtar's disciplined defense frustrated Bayern for much of the first half, the visitors gradually took control. Jamal Musiala saw a powerful shot blocked by a brave defender, while efforts from Thomas Müller and Leon Goretzka were also thwarted. Just before halftime, Bayern broke through when Musiala displayed composure to set up Müller, who slotted the ball into the net to give Bayern a 2-1 lead.
Shakhtar began the second half with determination, with Valerii Bondar coming close to an equalizer, but Bayern's defense held firm. Bayern pushed for a third goal, and although Musiala had one ruled out for a foul in the buildup, the visitors were awarded a penalty shortly after. Michael Olise converted confidently, placing his shot in the top-left corner to extend Bayern's advantage.
The goals kept coming as Musiala added a fourth, calmly finishing into the bottom corner after capitalizing on a defensive error. Olise then sealed the commanding win with a stunning solo effort, weaving past several defenders before slotting the ball into an empty net.
Despite a promising start, Shakhtar's European campaign ended in disappointment, leaving them with slim hopes of securing a playoff spot. Meanwhile, Bayern's dominant performance keeps them firmly in contention for automatic qualification to the knockout stages.
