'It's Very Painful Watching How Israel Is Taking Advantage Of What Is Going On' - Mahmoud Salmon

A Syria Former Detainee, Mahmoud Salmon has expressed his mixed emotions following the fall of the Bashar Al-Assad regime in Syria. He accused the Israelis of taking advantage of the chaos in the country to target infrastructure and violate existing treaties.

He however conveyed an overwhelming sense of happiness at the hope for a brighter future for Syria. He identified that the joy of returning to his hometown and reuniting with his family is a relief for him after enduring years of suffering in detention.

He said in an interview with Sky News, 'Words cannot express the amount of happiness that I have had, the happiness of finally getting rid of this dictator, and of bringing justice to our country and seeking a bright future for it. The happiness of going back to my hometown and to my family.

But it's very painful now, watching people suffering in Sednaya. It's very painful watching how Israel is taking advantage of what is going on to destroy our infrastructure. They are advancing with their forces, and they are breaking the treaties that we have had. So, yeah, it's a mixed feeling.''
