West Ham players, who faced Wolves on Monday night, have worn T-shirts with the name and number of Michail Antonio on the back following his horror car accident on Saturday
West Ham players paid tribute to injured star Michail Antonio ahead of their Premier League clash against Wolves by wearing warm-up shirts with the striker's name and number on the back.
The Jamaica forward, 34, sustained a serious leg injury after a horrific road traffic accident near Theydon Bois, Essex, on Saturday afternoon - with Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui describing Antonio's survival as a "miracle."
Antonio had been trapped in his Ferrari for almost an hour before emergency services could extricate him and he was taken to hospital. He underwent surgery on a lower limb injury on Sunday morning and is expected to remain in hospital for several more days.
West Ham said the shirts will be signed and auctioned off with proceeds going to the NHS and Air Ambulances UK.
The Hammers said: "Everyone at the club would like to reiterate their heartfelt thanks to the first responders, emergency services, air ambulance staff and the NHS for the incredible support given to Michail in the wake of the accident."
It is too early to say how long it will take for Antonio, whose contract expires in the summer, to recover from his injury but captain Jarrod Bowen said he thinks the veteran will be back stronger.
"It's been one of those things you never thought you'd be involved in," Bowen told Sky Sports before the game. "Mic has been here longer than I have, Everyone loves him, he's a big character in here.
"Those few hours on Saturday was difficult when we got the news and we were waiting for the news.
"He's not just a team-mate, he's a friend of ours for many years, a dad as well to beautiful children. You see the support. I want to say thank you for the support from everyone, as captain.
"I've seen all the messages and it's one of those times where life was bigger than football. Everyone came together. For me, I truly appreciate that. The good thing is Mic is safe, and he's here to tell the story.
"Mic's a warrior, Mic's a fighter, he has been through his career. So he will be back stronger from this."
Hammers head coach Lopetegui, meanwhile, said Antonio's outcome from the crash was a "miracle."
Lopetegui said: "It has been very tough for all of us, but much more for him and his family. Fortunately he was a miracle, looking at the pictures of the car.
"There are more important things: the dad, the brother, the son that he is. This is more important about Mic. We are happy because he has overcome the surgery. After, let's see.
"We talked with him today. The most important thing is he was a miracle."
