"No fewer than 10 young girls go missing daily due to hook-up jobs" - police

The Nigeria Police have identified a troubling connection between the rise of hook-up culture and the increasing number of missing young women, particularly in Ogun State. According to report, Omolola Odutola, the Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Command, shared this insight during an appearance on Channels Television's Morning Brief.

Odutola noted that young women aged 20 to 32 are disproportionately affected by these incidents. She expressed concern that many young men view ritual killings as a pathway to wealth, further exacerbating the crisis.

"This issue is extremely serious," Odutola emphasized. "I urge young people to recognize the dangers inherent in the hook-up culture. Daily, we receive reports of around ten young girls and women going missing."

Investigations reveal that these disappearances are not random; a significant number are linked to hook-up platforms and applications. Victims are often lured by strangers to unfamiliar locations, where they may be exploited for ritual purposes.

The recent surge in cases of missing girls and ritualistic killings in Ogun State is alarming but not unprecedented. However, Odutola reassured the public that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police is actively working to address and reduce these incidents.

In a collective effort to combat this issue, the Ogun State Police Command is collaborating with the Women Affairs Commission to implement strategies aimed at protecting vulnerable young women and curtailing the rise of these dangerous practices.
