Jamie Carragher didn't hesitate when asked who Liverpool must keep out of Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold

Jamie Carragher gave a definitive answer when asked who Liverpool should "go all out to keep" out of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

All three players are out of contract at the end of the season.

Earlier this week, it was suggested that Liverpool have made a contract offer to Van Dijk which 'fell short' of expectations.

In fact, a report from The Athletic suggests dialogue has taken place 'for some time' regarding the contract situations of Van Dijk, Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Salah, meanwhile, has been outspoken about contract negotiations amid rumours of a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

"We are almost in December and I haven't received any offers yet to stay in the club," Salah said after Liverpool's 3-2 win over Southampton last month.

"I'm probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said, it is December and I haven't received anything yet about my future."

Amid ongoing talks, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has given his take on the situation during a live Q&A chat with the Telegraph.

Here, Carragher was asked the following question: "Who do you keep: Van Dijk, Salah or Trent?"

He replied: "Virgil van Dijk is the most important. Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been unbelievable for Liverpool. But since Van Dijk joined Liverpool, there has been only one season when he was playing regularly when Liverpool have not competed for the biggest honours."

Carragher added: "His loss was clear when he missed a year because of his serious knee injury, and there was a spell when he needed a break because he was playing too much football.

"He looks as good as ever now. To me, that's the contract that needs to be sorted above all others, but obviously I do not want any of them to go this summer."

Carragher was also asked how Trent Alexander-Arnold should be remembered if he leaves Liverpool, and he opted to give the England international a piece of advice.

"If I could offer my advice to Trent it would be to sign a deal and get yourself a realistic buy-out clause so the option is there if the chance of a move comes around again," he said.

"That way, if Real still fancy it, Liverpool could get a few quid and Trent will always be remembered as Liverpool's greatest right-back."
