Liverpool vs Manchester City: Slot handed boost before Guardiola showdown

The Dutch manager shared positive news before his first Premier League match-up with the defending champions.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fit to start in Sunday's crucial Premier League match against Manchester City.

What Slot said

The right-back has recovered from a hamstring injury sustained before the international break but could play in some capacity against Pep Guardiola's men

"Yes, he would," said the Dutchman when asked if the right-back could make the squad.

Liverpool's injuries

However, Slot faces new injury concerns after the 2-0 Champions League victory over Real Madrid. Both Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate were forced off with injuries during the match.

The young right-back appeared to suffer a hamstring problem, while Konate was seen struggling after the final whistle. Slot admitted that the injuries "are not a good sign" and that both players are being assessed.

"Let's wait and see but it is never a good sign," continued Slot. "Conor, I had to take him off and Ibou didn't walk off the pitch as he should after such a fantastic game that he played. He should have made a round and clapped the fans but he couldn't."

Liverpool's possible solutions

Konate's inability to participate in the post-match lap of honour has raised further concerns about the severity of his injury.

If the centre-back is unavailable, Slot will need to choose between Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah to partner Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

Gomez has more experience but has seen limited playing time this season, while Quansah has yet to feature in the Premier League since the opening weekend.

What next for Liverpool?

Liverpool are also expected to be without Diogo Jota, Federico Chiesa, and Alisson Becker for the match against Manchester City.

Despite these injury concerns, the Reds will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table against the reigning champions.
