Viktor Gyokeres, the dynamic forward from Sporting CP, has reportedly turned down advances from renowned Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester United, according to striking news emerging from Spain.
The 26-year-old, who has captured the attention of nearly every top-tier team across Europe, is anticipated to depart Sporting next summer amid a flurry of interest from major footballing powers.
Arsenal and Manchester United are currently viewed as leading candidates to secure the services of the talented Swedish international.
However, recent reports from Spanish publication El Nacional suggest that Gyokeres has opted to reject offers from both clubs.
This unexpected development has piqued the interest of Barcelona's president, Joan Laporta, who is keen on acquiring Gyokeres in 2025, despite the impressive performance of striker Robert Lewandowski so far this season.
Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, acknowledged Gyokeres' capabilities but stressed that the club is not actively pursuing his transfer at this time. "Gyokeres is certainly a talented player," Deco stated in an interview with Mundo Deportivo. "He has been consistently finding the back of the net in Portugal. While we keep track of him and others, he's not a pressing priority for us right now.
"When the moment comes for us to make decisions, I will evaluate our options, but I think discussing specific players at this moment isn't appropriate."
So far this season, Gyokeres has impressively contributed to 41 goals in just 25 appearances for both club and country. Meanwhile, Chelsea has also been reported as a potential suitor as the transfer rumors continue to swirl.
Regarding all the chatter about his future, Gyokeres remains grounded and focused on his current club, insisting that he is prioritizing his time at Sporting. "These are just rumors with no concrete offers," he remarked recently. "I am committed to finishing the season with Sporting, where I truly enjoy playing. I am not feeling pressured about making a transition just yet. We'll see what the future holds.
"Of course, the coach [Amorim] has strikers at Manchester United now. It's unfortunate he left Sporting, but I respect his choice; he played a significant role in my growth and development here."
