Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has criticised Mohamed Salah for being "selfish" after the forward openly expressed frustration over the lack of a new contract offer from the club.
Salah, whose current contract runs out at the end of the season, made headlines after stating he is "probably more out than in" during a post-match interview following Liverpool's victory over Southampton on Sunday.
The Egyptian star also revealed he has yet to receive a fresh deal.
The 32-year-old has been a standout performer for Liverpool this season, leading the club's scoring charts with 12 goals across all competitions. He netted twice in the Southampton clash, helping Liverpool extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points.
Sharing his thoughts on the situation, Carragher told Sky Sports' Monday Night Football:
"I must say I am very disappointed with Mo Salah. Liverpool have Real Madrid midweek [in the Champions League] and Man City at the weekend. That's the story right now."
Carragher continued: "If he keeps putting comments out, his agent puts out cryptic messages, that is selfish. That is thinking about themselves and not the football club."
Liverpool have refrained from making any public statements on Salah's remarks. However, a club insider told BBC Sport that discussions between the club and Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, are ongoing and have been described as positive.
