On 22 November 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, during a motorcade through Dealey Plaza. As his open limousine passed crowds of spectators, shots rang out, fatally wounding Kennedy, as well as Governor John Connally, who was seated beside him. The President was eventually pronounced dead at Parkland Memorial Hospital, 30 minutes later.
Lee Harvey Oswald, a former Marine, was arrested for the murder. However, two days later, he was fatally shot by nightclub owner Jack Ruby- an incident that sparked widespread speculation in the US about conspiracies. The Warren Commission later concluded that Oswald acted alone.
Kennedy's assassination shocked the world and marked a significant moment in American history. His death led to Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson's swearing-in as President and greatly impacted the nation's political and cultural landscape even as security is intensified to ensure the safety of any US President.
