Mike Huckabee, a nominee for U.S. Ambassador to Israel, has strongly opposed the idea of a cease-fire in the ongoing conflict. He argued that a cease-fire could have been possible on October 8, 2023, if Hamas had agreed to stop fighting and disarm. Huckabee stressed that Hamas should not be allowed any "breathing room," asserting that it must be decisively defeated by Israeli forces. He also raised concerns about the situation of seven American hostages, questioning why the Biden administration has not applied more pressure on Hamas to secure their release. He emphasized that lasting peace in the region is impossible until terror organizations funded by Iran are completely dismantled.
He said in an interview with Fox News, "I keep hearing about cease-fire. We can't have a cease-fire right now. We could have had it October 8th if Hamas lays down its arms, gives up bombs, bullets, rockets, and stops killing Jews. That's cease-fire. We have seven American hostages. Why haven't they been released? And why hasn't this administration put more pressure to get those hostages, all of them released, than the pressure we are putting on Israel?
It doesn't make any sense at all. This policy, which is on again and off again, is very disruptive and it's really giving more rope to Hamas. The last thing Hamas needs is some breathing room, they need to be suffocated and ended. There will be no peace in that region until these terror groups funded by Iran are completely eliminated."
