YouTuber Jake Paul and boxing legend Mike Tyson enjoyed a remarkable financial outcome from their exhibition match held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, generating a combined total of $60 million.
Paul earned $40 million while Tyson took home $20 million after Paul secured a unanimous decision victory over the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion.
In an impressive display, Paul, 27, dominated the eight-round contest, with all three judges scoring it in his favour at 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73. Tyson found it challenging to connect with meaningful punches throughout the fight.
Paul not only showcased his boxing skills but also played a key role in promoting the event through his Most Valuable Promotions company, in collaboration with Netflix. His involvement contributed to a remarkable $17.8 million in gate receipts, drawing over 70,000 fans to the event.
For Tyson, his $20 million purse represents a significant payday, especially as he returned to the ring nearly two decades after his last professional bout. While this amount is substantial, it is notably less than his impressive career earnings of $400 million, including the historic $20 million he earned in his 1988 match against Michael Spinks, which would be roughly $53 million in today's value.
This event drew comparisons to the highly publicized 2017 matchup between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, which resulted in earnings of $100 million and $30 million for the respective fighters.
With a current net worth of $80 million, Paul continues to build on his undefeated record against prominent opponents.
