Palmeiras President Dismisses Neymar Signing Amid Concerns Over Fitness
Palmeiras president Leila Pereira has firmly ruled out any possibility of signing Neymar, citing concerns about the player's fitness.
Addressing recent rumors, Pereira stated, "Neymar will not join Palmeiras; this club isn't a medical department. I want someone who will come to join immediately, who can play tomorrow if the manager wishes. I won't accept us signing a player who's unfit to play."
The comments come in the wake of Neymar's recent injury struggles. The 32-year-old Brazilian star, currently with Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, has been plagued by fitness issues throughout his career.
Most recently, he sustained a hamstring injury during Al-Hilal's Asian Champions League win over Esteghlal on November 4, forcing him off the field after just 29 minutes.
This setback occurred shortly after his return from a year-long recovery from an ACL tear in his left knee, suffered during international duty for Brazil.
Neymar's repeated injuries have limited him to just seven appearances for Al-Hilal, where he has managed one goal and three assists since joining in 2023.
Given Palmeiras' ambition to sign players who can make an immediate impact, the prospect of adding Neymar, who is sidelined until at least mid-December, was deemed unsuitable
