Ruben Amorim arrives in England on Monday, but the new Manchester United manager faces an anxious wait to find out when he can start working with his new players to try and salvage their season
Ruben Amorim faces an anxious wait to discover when he can take charge of his first training session as Manchester United boss.
Amorim will travel to Manchester on Monday, having taken charge of his final game as Sporting Lisbon manager at Braga. But the Portuguese coach hasn't received the work visa he needs before he can start working with his squad.
Amorim will arrive at United to find a threadbare squad available to him, due to the current international break. But those who have remained in Manchester, including Marcus Rashford, still don't know when their first training session with Amorim will be.
United cruised to a 3-0 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday, in Ruud Van Nistelrooy's final game as caretaker boss. Van Nistelrooy has engineered three wins from four games and he said: "It's been a short but amazing period.
"We are in an uncertain position, but we tried to do our jobs and help the club. The way the fans supported me and the team, in difficult moments, it was a special moment.
"To close down this block of games with good results and a good connection, I can't thank them enough. We will learn what the further plan is now."
United captain Bruno Fernandes knows there will be lots of changes once Amorim gets started. But he admits the one thing that will never change is the need for United to get back to the top again.
He said: "Ruud van Nistelrooy loves the club and we wanted to say goodbye as a manager for him properly, because he did good things for us.
"It's a new era. A new manager means everything changes, but what hasn't changed is that this club has to get back to where it belongs."
Leicester boss Steve Cooper, who revealed Ricardo Pereira will be sidelined four months with a torn hamstring, said: "We weren't the threat we are capable of being. We fell short."
