Paul Scholes Suggests 48-Year-Old Coach Deserves to Be Man United Boss Ahead of Ruben Amorim

According to a report by Metro, in a surprising turn of events, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has endorsed Ruud van Nistelrooy as the club's permanent manager, praising the Dutchman's credentials after an impressive run as interim boss. Scholes' comments, which came ahead of Ruben Amorim's highly-anticipated arrival at Old Trafford, have sparked a fresh debate on the future of United's managerial situation.

Van Nistelrooy, who has stepped in as interim manager following a string of disappointing results under Erik ten Hag, has led Manchester United to three unbeaten games, including a resounding 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup and a commanding 2-0 win over POAK in the Europa League. His record in these fixtures has impressed many, including Scholes, who has now thrown his support behind the former striker for the permanent managerial role.

Speaking after United's victory over POAK, Scholes was effusive in his praise for Van Nistelrooy's managerial abilities, citing his successful stint at PSV Eindhoven where he won multiple domestic trophies, including the Johan Cruyff Shield and the KNVB Cup. Scholes remarked, "I think he should be manager. Just watching him in three games, he did well in Holland, he won the Dutch Cup, he won other things, he just looks like he's made to be a manager. I think he's better than being an assistant manager, I think he should be managing a club."

Van Nistelrooy, a United icon who was known for his goal-scoring prowess during his playing days, has also gained valuable experience as an assistant coach under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. Scholes believes this background has prepared the Dutchman for a more prominent role, one that could see him take the reins at Manchester United for the long term. "He has the potential to be a top manager," Scholes added. "You can see in his time at PSV that he has a clear understanding of the game and what it takes to win."
