Manchester United injury and team news: Ruud van Nistelrooy gives update on five players

Ruud van Nistelrooy has delivered promising updates on the fitness of two key Manchester United players who have faced extended spells on the sidelines due to injuries as reported by Manchester World.

United, dealing with a series of defensive setbacks this season, will be relieved by the progress reports, especially under the guidance of their current manager, Ruben Amorim.

One player on the path to recovery is Leny Yoro, who joined United for a notable £59 million during the summer but has yet to make his competitive debut.

After suffering a fractured metatarsal in pre-season, Yoro returned to partial team training on Wednesday as United prepared for their Europa League game against PAOK.

"He's been managed very well after his injury in pre-season; it was going to be a long one," Van Nistelrooy said about Yoro's progress.

"It's a big moment for him, the first time he's back in team training. We'll get him back partially over the coming weeks and look to get him on board as quick as possible."

However, defenders Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw have been working towards full fitness.

Malacia, sidelined for nearly 18 months due to a knee injury, has recently returned to full team training.

According to Van Nistelrooy, "Tyrell is the furthest, he's part of team training for a couple of weeks now, full in team training, no restrictions. It's good for him to plan game minutes, maybe in the Under-21s, we have to see."

Shaw, still recovering from a persistent calf issue, is showing signs of improvement. "Luke does pitch work like he did today and he's progressing there to do partial team training soon," Van Nistelrooy said.

Other key players, including Christian Eriksen and Antony, have resumed training and could feature in upcoming matches.

Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire, both undergoing individualized rehab programs, are also making progress.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount has taken steps in his recovery and may soon be ready to contribute.
