A model and young hockey talent has died in hospital after a horror hit-and-run accident.
Social media star Ayelén Ferreira and her boyfriend were returning from a match when their Chevrolet Prisma was rear-ended by a Volkswagen Saveiro. The impact caused the couple's car to swerve and hit a Ford EcoSport.
The culprit allegedly fled the scene without offering assistance or even calling for help. The horror unfolded on Sunday, October 27, on National Route 12 in Argentina as the couple returned from Iguazú. Ayelén, 21, and her boyfriend, who was behind the wheel, were both alive when they were taken to a hospital in Wanda.
However, the model succumbed to her severe injuries early on October 28 shortly after arriving at the facility. Her boyfriend remained in critical condition at the time of the last update on October 30. His identity is withheld and his prognosis is guarded, as reported by NeedToKnow.
Officials are searching for the driver who caused the accident on charges of a hit-and-run and of failure to provide assistance. They are also investigating possible aggravating factors, such as excessive speed and alcohol or substance use.
The driver has been identified and the police are reportedly confident they will arrest him soon. Ayelén boasted 32,800 followers on Instagram where she showed off her fit physique and her glamorous lifestyle.
In one post, she described hockey as "my plaster for the soul". According to her bio, she studied marketing and HR and had won beauty pageants.
