Ademola Lookman is ahead of other Serie A forwards in the 2024 calendar year.
Ademola Lookman has been in inspired form in 2024, and his efforts are underscored by a key statistics metric that places him above every other attacker in the Italian top flight.
Lookman's sensational 2024
Earlier in the year, Lookman was Nigeria's best attacker at the African Cup of Nations, scoring three goals (joint-most in the tournament) to help the Super Eagles to a silver medal in Ivory Coast.
He carried that form back to Bergamo and helped La Dea finish in the top four. The most spectacular bit of his year, however, came in the Europa League final, when he scored a hat-trick to inflict Bayer Leverkusen's only defeat of the entire campaign and hand Atalanta their first trophy in 67 years.
A few days ago, he was named the 14th best player in the world by the Ballon d'Or for his exploits, and earlier this afternoon, he scored a brace against Serie A league leaders Napoli, ending the Partenopei's 10-game-long unbeaten run.
Lookman ahead of the pack
The two first-half goals against Antonio Conte's side took the former Everton forward to 27 goal contributions this calendar year. No other player in Italy's elite division has as many.
Lookman has scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists for Atalanta since January, underscoring his meteoric rise in the last season and half. He is set to be named the African Men's Footballer of the Year by CAF soon, a triumphant punctuation to a remarkable calendar year from the 27-year-old.
