On October 29, 2014, Boko Haram terrorists invaded and seized Mubi town in Adamawa State, North East Nigeria, killing dozens of people and displacing thousands. The insurgents stormed the town, unleashing gunfire and raising their black flag over the traditional ruler's palace, to show that they have taken over the place.
Witnesses narrated that the militants robbed banks, destroyed the town's main market, and carried out brutal acts, including the killing of a university lecturer and his family members. The capture of Mubi showed Boko Haram's increasing capability to target strategic urban centres and destabilise communities, which worsened the crisis in Nigeria's northeastern region.
The terrorists always repelled the Nigerian military's response which weakens the counter-insurgency efforts, especially in remote and difficult-to-access areas.
