Israel Strikes Iran After Missile Attack; Explosions Reported in Tehran

In a high-stakes escalation, explosions were reported in Tehran around 5:00 a.m. local time, according to AFP. This follows Israel's retaliatory strikes on Iran after a missile attack in which roughly 180 missiles were fired at Israel, leaving two people injured and causing minor damage to infrastructure and military facilities. An unmanned aerial vehicle reportedly crossed over from Lebanon into Israel, falling in an open area in the western Galilee region. No casualties were recorded in that incident.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that Iran would "pay" for the assault. Tensions in the region have been further fueled by the killing of a Palestinian man from Gaza in Jericho amid rising hostilities. As reported by Al-Monitor, the United States and Israel reached an informal agreement regarding Israel's response. Washington reportedly assured Israel of support, requesting restraint to avoid broader escalation by steering clear of strikes on Iranian nuclear and oil facilities.

As a show of deterrence, the U.S. military has also deployed aircraft carriers and fighter jets to the area, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining stability in the region.
