CAF Player of the Year award

A representative of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has debunked reports that it has nominated Super Eagles duo Victor Boniface and Ademola Lookman and Morocco's Brahim Diaz for the African Footballer of the Year award.

According to a report by an official of CAF's media committee has denied any report of the three players being shortlisted for the prestigious award following their remarkable campaigns with their teams.

"Like everyone else, we (CAF) saw it on the internet. It didn't come from CAF, so it should be dismissed. All announcements for the previous editions have been handled by our media team and nothing has changed in that regard," the official said, as quoted by

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has been tipped as the favourite to dethrone Victor Osimhen as the next African Footballer of the Year following his stellar campaign with La Dea last season.

The 27-year-old guided Gian Piero Gasperini's side to their first Europa League title with a historic hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.

The former Leicester City loanee registered 17 goals and 10 assists across all competitions for the Bergamo-based club.
