Libya Appeals to CAF, Cites Reasons for Diverting Super Eagles' Flight to Al-Abraq

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has made a renewed plea to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for leniency ahead of an anticipated ruling regarding the recent incident involving the Super Eagles of Nigeria at Al-Abraq airport.

According to a report from Vanguard, it was previously reported that the Nigerian team was stranded without proper assistance for nearly 20 hours upon their arrival in Libya for the return leg of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

Due to the poor treatment, they received, the Super Eagles were unable to proceed with the match.

The incident, which has attracted criticism from CAF, will be addressed at the upcoming general assembly where a final decision is expected.

In light of this, Libya FA's general secretary and interim president, Nasser Al-Suwaie, has called on CAF to exercise mercy in their judgment.

He explained that the unfortunate circumstances were beyond the federation's control, pointing to state-level decisions regarding landing procedures and airport logistics as the main cause.

In his comments to the media, Al-Suwaie subtly appealed for understanding, acknowledging the challenges that led to the Nigerian team's poor treatment.

CAF's disciplinary committee is expected to impose sanctions on the Libyan FA, with the possibility of a ban not ruled out.

According to a report from Leagues Reporter, Nigeria is anticipated to be awarded three points and three goals, with Libya potentially facing a three-match home ban and a fine.
