Sean "Diddy" Combs' recent arrest has dragged other celebrities into his scandal, including Jay-Z and Beyoncé, who just had their lawyer legally remove Jaguar Wright's serious allegations about them in Piers Morgan Uncensored. A-listers are reportedly fearing for their reputation ahead of the "Diddy List" release.
But many Hollywood stars have been warning people about the music mogul, long before his alleged crimes were exposed. Some of them are his former protégés who claim to have seen disturbing things in his "dangerous" freak-off parties. Here's a list of musicians Diddy has mentored and their ties to his case.
1 Usher
Usher was only 14 years old when he moved in with Diddy in 1994. In a 2016 interview with Howard Stern, the "Burn" performer said he "went there to see the lifestyle," but didn't know if he could even "indulge and understand" the "pretty wild" things he saw at that time.
There's also a 2012 drunken interview of Diddy where he might have admitted to sleeping with Usher when they lived together. "That's my brother right here from day one. We used to wake up [together]," the Bad Boy Records founder said while his arm was around his former mentee.
Kimora Lee Simmons Exposed Diddy Years Before His Scandal Footage Surfaced
Long before the physical abuse scandal of Sean Diddy Combs and Cassie, Kimora Lee Simmons spoke about a similar experience with the rapper.
In the same interview, Diddy said he and Usher used to "wrestle off of the Frosted Flakes because [Usher] always gets up early." Fans thought it was odd that the latter's parents let him live with a virtual stranger. After being signed by LaFace Records at age 13, Usher was sent to Diddy by the label co-founder, Antonio "L.A." Reid - with his mom's permission - so he could learn to be "edgier."
L.A. wrote in his memoir, Sing to Me : "'Will you take this kid and teach him your swagger?' I said. 'Can you just give him some of your flavor?' I wanted Usher to be edgier than LaFace was. Our music could be soft and pretty. I didn't want Usher to be pretty."
L.A. almost dropped the young talent from his label after his voice changed due to puberty. But then Diddy helped him out - he paid for Usher's tutor and gave him an allowance to stay out of trouble. Although the music mentor didn't produce the latter's second album, Usher told Howard there was no bad blood between them, back in 2016. "He was already a family member from afar. I never felt a disconnection. He's still a big brother," he said of Diddy.
2 Justin Bieber
Recently, a suspicious video of Diddy and a 15-year-old Justin Bieber resurfaced. Titled "48 Hours with Diddy," the Sean John founder was seen gifting the Baby singer a luxury car. At that time, Usher had just signed Justin to Raymond Braun Media Group, a joint company with Scooter Braun. Things took a turn when Diddy told the camera: "Where we hanging out and what we doing, we can't really disclose."
But um, it's definitely a 15-year-old's dream. I have been given custody of [Justin]. He signed to Usher. I had legal guardianship of Usher... I don't have legal guardianship of [Justin], but for the next 48 hours, he's with me. We gonna go, buck full crazy."
At the end of the video, Justin joked about "getting some girls," to which Diddy said, "Man of my heart." The video is still up on Justin's YouTube channel. In the comment section, a fan wrote: "The fact this is out in the open for 14 years and nobody questioned it until now is crazy."
Someone also wrote, "Justice for Bieber," speculating that he might have been a victim as well. Experts believe Justin is prioritizing his mental health by staying silent amid the controversy.
3 Cassie
In November 2023, Diddy's ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, filed a lawsuit, accusing him of sexual assault and physical abuse. The I'll Be Missing You hitmaker settled a day later - encouraging other alleged victims to come forward. In her filing, Cassie said she was trapped in a 10-year "cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking."
She also had to undergo "intensive medical and psychological care" for her trauma. After a video of Diddy kicking her in a hotel went viral, Cassie said her "healing journey is never-ending, but this support means everything to me."
Kim Kardashian's Ex Ray J Weighs In On The Diddy Scandal And How His Friends Are Ditching Him
Sean Diddy Combs once had people crashing his parties, but now his friends remain silent while he becomes the subject of a federal investigation.
Cassie wrote on Instagram: "Domestic Violence is THE issue. It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from the past." On why she didn't speak out early, Cassie said in her legal complaint that she was coerced to be in a relationship with Diddy, who showed "uncontrollable rage," "frequently beat" her, and gave her "copious amounts of drugs."
4 Notorious B.I.G.
Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls' murder in 1997 is one of the several celebrity deaths linked to Diddy these days. Fans are particularly bothered by the Rolling Stone tell-all about Biggie - who thought his former label boss was a "corny executive" - planning on leaving Bad Boy Records, just right before he died in a drive-by shooting.
When Bad Boy was contacted for a posthumous Rolling Stone cover for Biggie, Diddy blocked it and got it for himself instead - promoting his debut album, No Way Out .
Biggie's mom Voletta Wallace, also wanted to "slap" Diddy after seeing footage of him kicking Cassie in a hotel. "I hope that I see Sean one day and the only thing I want to do is slap the daylights out of him," she said. "And you can quote me on that. Because I liked him. I didn't want to believe all the awful things, but I'm so ashamed and embarrassed."
5 Mary J. Blige
Diddy helped produce Mary J. Blige's first two albums. They became close friends since. But recently, it seems like the Queen of R&B has cut ties with the alleged sex trafficker. "Unfortunately, a lot of you all met me when I lacked boundaries and was a people pleaser," she wrote on Instagram.
Let me reintroduce myself, I burn bridges as needed.
Music whistleblower, Jaguar Wright - who's been making wild claims about Diddy and his alleged Hollywood associates - accused Mary J. of hiding her "real" sexuality and ruining Jaguar's career. "What can you do, Mary?" she said of the singer. "Other than play dress up and eat snatch in dark places hoping nobody finds out you're gay."
There have also been rumors about Diddy's real sexuality after he was also linked to male artists and sex workers.
The Family Affair songstress ignored Jaguar's rant. But the latter dared her, saying: "And If I'm lying, sue me Mary... If you got the heart, let's do the Verzuz. Or if you want to apologize to me for the way you tried to destroy my career at it's very beginning, you can do that, too."
6 Aubrey O'Day
Aubrey O'Day worked with Diddy when she joined his reality TV show on MTV, Making the Band. The Danity Kane alum has been vocal about the producer's "controlling" behavior, long before the allegations came out. Aubrey, who claimed she was "groomed" by Diddy, said that he tried to buy her silence by offering her publishing rights to her music.
P. Diddy 's Behavior Was Slammed By These Celebrities Long Before The Surveillance Footage Was Released
Sean "P. Diddy" Combs has been a controversial figure for years, with celebrities warning about his troubling behavior.
In a previous interview, Aubrey also said that Diddy was scarier than Donald Trump Jr., who she claimed was a "QAnon freak." She recalled that she and her fellow Danity Kane members "were scared to death with what would happen with Puff each day." He was very particular with the way they looked, on top of his musical expectations.
There was just no room for error. Diddy was one of the most intense people you could ever work with.
Aubrey added that with Diddy, they "experienced everything from race [remarks] to sexism and a lot of it was scary." Diddy picked on every flaw, including sweat during rehearsals. "We would be in rehearsals performing an hour-and-a-half set over and over and he would walk in for five minutes with a camera and say, 'Aubrey, why are you sweating? You look like a wet dog. You're the hot one, so do you think anyone wants to see that?'"
7 Shyne
Shyne, whose real name is Moses Barrow, went to prison for eight years and was deported back to Belize after he and Diddy, alongside Jennifer Lopez, were involved in a nightclub shooting in 1999. Diddy was acquitted of all charges while Jennifer was released after 14 hours in police custody where she "sobbed uncontrollably." In September, Shyne expressed some resentment toward his former mentor.
This is someone who destroyed my life. He testified against me when I was on trial, when I was just an 18-year-old kid wanting to make my mother proud.
Shyne and Diddy reconciled in 2012 and were photographed at Paris Fashion Week back then. When asked about the latter's case, the former - who's now Belize's House opposition leader - said he "[takes] no joy in anyone's challenges whether with the criminal justice system or otherwise."
Natania Reuben - the person who was shot during the incident - said she saw Diddy holding a gun and arguing with a drug dealer that night. "I watched him. I saw him with my own eyes," she said of getting shot right between her eyes. "It felt like I was hit with Paul Bunyan's flaming hot sledgehammer."
