EPL: Amorim clears air on replacing Guardiola at Man City

Sporting Lisbon head coach, Ruben Amorim, has distanced himself from rumours claiming that he is being lined up as Pep Guardiola's successor at Manchester City.

Guardiola's current contract with the Premier League champions expires next summer.

The Spaniard is yet to enter into negotiations with City over a fresh deal, leading to speculations over if he will stay beyond this campaign.

Sporting chief, Hugo Viana, who is a close ally of Amorim, has been appointed as City's next director of football. It is a move which has only fueled rumours that the Portuguese could also move to England.

However, in an interview with Cabine Desportiva, Amorim said:

"Hugo Viana and I, we have different and separate paths.

"His appointment doesn't mean that I'm going to Manchester City.

"We just have a very professional relationship, which will not last forever."
