Besiktas midfielder Moatasem Al-Musrati has strongly criticized European media outlets for their coverage of the Nigeria national team's recent ordeal in Libya, according to reports. Al-Musrati accuses the media of biased reporting, siding with the Super Eagles.
The controversy surrounds the Nigerian team's 18-hour detention at a Libyan airport, sparking widespread condemnation. However, Al-Musrati claims the European media neglected to report the Libyan national team's similar experience in Nigeria.
"Libyan players were held for hours in the airport for no reason, then thrown into malfunctioning buses," Al-Musrati stated on Facebook. "They were driven for three hours to arrive in an area with high military tension."
Al-Musrati asserts that the European media's focus on Nigeria's plight stems from the Super Eagles' high-profile players, including Premier League stars Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi.
"These events were not mentioned by the media because the Libyan players are not famous enough," Al-Musrati said. "The Nigerian players were able to use their fame to show they were treated poorly, thanks to their social media."
The former Libyan international emphasized Libya's reputation for hospitality, stating, "No national team has ever been treated poorly when visiting our country. What happened here was a reaction to the horrible treatment our players had to endure, nothing more!"
