The Royal Family is reportedly being torn apart by plans for King Charles' eventual funeral and the succession of the Crown. Following the monarch's cancer diagnosis, a series of plans were drawn up for what will happen when he passes away.

However, according to Tom Sykes, a royal commentator for the Daily Beast, these plans have caused a great deal of tension within Buckingham Palace, with many fearing the prospect of a King William. Sykes suggests that the power dynamic between Charles and William has shifted since the King's diagnosis, with reports indicating that executive power and influence are beginning to swing in William's favour.

Sykes also highlights potential issues for the Duke of Sussex, as Harry is more likely to strike a deal with King Charles than King William if he decides he wants back in. A royal source allegedly told Sykes that Harry believed he would have 20 years with his father as the ultimate authority to mend their strained relationship and doubts that the Duke of Sussex would have released his explosive book, Spare, if William and Kate were on the throne.

In April, it was revealed that plans for King Charles' eventual funeral (code-named Operation Menai Bridge) had been revisited by the palace due to growing concerns about his health. The possibility of Prince William potentially being crowned king sooner than expected has reportedly sent everyone into a tailspin.

The Daily Beast has reported that the groundwork for Prince William's future role as King William V is being laid with a sense of urgency, even while King Charles appears to be in good health. The publication suggests there's a palpable tension surrounding the thought of William ascending the throne, with "moments this year" causing a wave of anxiety among the royal courtiers, family, and aides, who are reportedly filled with a "what-happens-now horror and doubt" due to concerns about Charles' wellbeing, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

Those working closely with the royals are particularly worried about their positions post-succession.

Prince Harry, meanwhile, seems increasingly isolated from the royal fold, with little hope of reconciliation once his brother takes the crown. The article also touches on the delicate position of Queen Camilla, who is said to be merely "tolerated" by Prince William and not genuinely liked or loved.

Questions loom over her future residence and financial security, given that she doesn't possess substantial personal wealth.

There's even talk that King Charles may want Prince Andrew to leave his Royal Lodge home to ensure Camilla has a place to stay after he passes away. However, Andrew is reportedly resisting, betting that such matters will be low on William's list of priorities when he becomes king.
