Iran To Israel: 'We Do Not Seek a Wider War, But Are Ready for Any Scenario

In a recent interview with Al Jazeera, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Israel of actively seeking to instigate a large-scale war while dragging other countries into the conflict.

"Israel is seeking a large-scale war and dragging countries into it," he stated, emphasizing that Iran does not desire such an escalation. He added, "Iran is not the only one that does not want a large-scale war, but everyone knows the catastrophic consequences of such a war."

Araghchi's comments come amid heightened tensions in the region, particularly following Iran's missile attack on October 1, which was reportedly in retaliation for Israeli actions against Iranian and Hezbollah leaders. The foreign minister criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing to achieve his objectives in Gaza, where the conflict has persisted for over a year. He warned that Netanyahu would face similar challenges against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

During his regional tour, which included visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Araghchi sought to promote diplomatic solutions to the ongoing crises. He emphasized that there is a "consensus" among various nations on the necessity of finding diplomatic resolutions rather than escalating military confrontations. "Diplomatic channels are open with America through other countries, and we are exchanging views indirectly," he noted, highlighting the importance of international dialogue amid rising tensions.

The Iranian foreign minister's remarks come at a time when the humanitarian situation in Lebanon and Gaza is deteriorating. Reports indicate that millions are in urgent need of assistance due to ongoing conflicts and military operations. Araghchi pointed out that global attention to these crises is crucial and reflects the outcomes of diplomatic engagements.

As Israel continues its military operations against Hezbollah and Hamas, Iranian officials have reiterated their readiness to defend their sovereignty if provoked. Araghchi's statements reflect Iran's position of deterrence while simultaneously advocating for peace. He stated that while Iran does not seek war, it will be prepared for any eventuality should Israel escalate its military actions.
