According to a report released by Daily Records and reported by Goal, a former Arsenal striker has been handed 15-month jail sentence after being caught with £3,300 worth of cocaine.
As claimed in the report, the name of the ex-Gunner is Anthony Stokes - he also played for Scottish premiership side Celtic.
The former Gunners youth player was found guilty of possessing £3,300 worth of cocaine, following a high-speed car chase in Dublin. Reportedly, Stokes was found in an intoxicated state and had been driving at a speed or 99mph.
At the time he was driving at that speed, he almost collided with another motorist. This incident happened on the 6th day of January 2023, after midnight.
Last month, Dublin District Court Judge Adjourned his sentence and waited till October 8 to see if Stokes would test negative to drug use, however a recent test found traces of cocaine in his system and so on that same day he was handed a 15-month jail sentence by the Dublin District Court and was also banned from driving for five years - per the report.
Speaking on the matter, Stokes's solicitor Lorraine Stephens revealed that the former player is "trying to battle his demons" and may require "proper residential treatment" after struggling with a drug addiction following his retirement from football.
Furthermore, Stokes confessed to four counts of dangerous driving, driving while over the alcohol limit, unlawful possession of cocaine and having the drug for sale or supply.
The 36-year-old who at some point played Arsenal, also played for Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Blackburn Rovers, and also spent six good years at Celtic.
