FG Moves to Lower Fuel Prices as Oil Marketers Confirm DSS Involvement

The Federal Government is taking steps to reduce fuel prices so as to bring relief to Nigerians who have been grappling with the increasing cost of fuel.

Petroleum marketers have confirmed that they will be meeting with the Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, to discuss the price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and its availability.

The President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi Shettima, revealed this in an interview with Daily Post.

"Wednesday I have a meeting with the Department of State Services.

"It is about the petrol pump price. Anywhere IPMAN is involved it is about the issue of petrol and its availability to members," he said.

The details of the meeting is scarce, as of press time.

"Until we go there, I will brief you after the meeting," the IPMAN boss said when pressed to disclose details.

Nigerians have been bearing the brunt of high fuel prices, with costs ranging from N950 to N1,200 or more across the country.

This is despite the commencement of fuel production at the 650,000 barrels per day (BPD) capacity Dangote refinery.
