In a recent interview with Symfoni TV, prominent lawyer Kenneth Okonkwo voiced strong support for Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, praising his resolve against what Okonkwo describes as political intimidation and manipulation.
Okonkwo commended Governor Fubara for "resisting attempts by certain political figures to take over Rivers State and its local government structures through unconstitutional means." This statement alludes to a power struggle within the state, suggesting that some factions are trying to exert control over local governments in ways that Okonkwo believes violate constitutional provisions.
The lawyer's remarks highlighted a perceived inconsistency in the actions of the group he referred to as "Pro-Wike," presumably supporters of former Governor Nyesom Wike. Okonkwo pointed out that this group had previously criticized Governor Fubara for running the state with caretaker committees. However, according to Okonkwo, the same group is now attempting to obstruct the local government elections.
"That's how insincere liars operate in government," Okonkwo stated, suggesting a lack of genuine concern for proper governance and instead implying ulterior motives behind the group's actions.
Elaborating on his support for Governor Fubara, Okonkwo asserted, "What Governor Sim Fubara is doing is absolutely correct. He's resisting intimidation, manipulation." The lawyer's comments paint a picture of a governor standing firm against powerful political interests that, in Okonkwo's view, are acting outside constitutional boundaries.
Okonkwo didn't mince words when describing the motivations of those opposing Fubara's actions. "What they are fighting for is for their pockets. It's their position and power, not the people," he said
