Over 70 communities are said to have been submerged by flood, the Kogi State government have confirmed.
Joel Salifu, the deputy governor of Kogi State while speaking after an inspection of the Edeha community said the disaster caused by the flooding is beyond the capacity of the state government.
Doubling as the chairman of the 2024 Kogi State Flood Disaster Response Committee, Salifu said that all efforts by the state to prevent such situations have proved abortive.
He also noted that the situation Edeha community has gone beyond the state's control.
"It is obvious that the present situation is beyond what the Kogi state Government can handle, we cannot do it alone.
"It is clear that over 70 communities have been affected by the flood and thousands of homes and farmlands submerged," the deputy governor said.
He, however, expressed joy that so far, no life has been lost due to the flooding this year.
He also noted that the state governor has relocated residents of the affected communities to the state's Internally Displaced Persons camp.
