Dan Nwayanwu, a prominent Nigerian politician, has urged that winners of the upcoming local government elections in Rivers State should be sworn in immediately after the results are announced. In a video that was shared by SYMFONI TV, according to him, this would prevent legal battles that might attempt to stop the newly elected officials from taking office.
Nwayanwu noted that the majority of the people in Rivers support the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and are eager for the elections to move forward smoothly. He suggested that after the election, the elected chairmen and councillors should be sworn in right away, without delay.
The politician warned that if there is any delay in swearing in the winners, there could be court cases filed against them as soon as Monday. He expressed concerns that some judges in Abuja could issue court orders to block the winners from taking office, which could create unnecessary political tension.
Nwayanwu concluded by saying that the elections will go ahead regardless of any opposition and urged the government to avoid giving room for court orders that might disrupt the democratic process.
