Eight Boko Haram Terrorists Arrested In Taraba

Ten people have been apprehended in Taraba State by forces from the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke.

Among them are eight Boko Haram fighters and two notorious persons who were involved in kidnappings.

Captain Olubodunde Oni, the acting assistant director of Army Public Relations, released information about the recent operations in a press statement on Tuesday in Jalingo.

The press release said that Tukura Abdul-Kareem, who was thought to be the leader of Boko Haram in Sunkani Ward, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area, Taraba State, was the target of a well organized operation on September 29, 2024, at his residence.

Abdul-Kareem and eight other people were detained during the raid, according to Captain Oni.

The people acknowledged that they were members of Boko Haram after traveling from different parts of the nation to join the group.

"The investigation revealed that the group had plans to set up a hidden cell in Taraba, aiming to carry out attacks with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on civilians and important infrastructure," the statement explained.

The spokesman added that Abdul-Kareem acknowledged taking part in Boko Haram operations alongside his brother Adamu Abdul-Kareem, who is still at large.

The items that were taken from the suspects included nine cell phones, identity cards, and illicit drugs, such as marijuana and other drugs.

On September 30, 2024, troops from Chachanji village, which is part of the Takum Local Government Area, also captured two women on a separate mission, Patience Avadoo Tersoo and Joy Nguemo Emmanuel.

These women were accused of providing vital information to the criminal network of a well-known kidnapper by the name of Anyogo. They were believed to be his wife and sister.

The soldiers also seized a motorcycle, a calabash, and a smartphone from the individuals during the operation.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops' commitment and promptness, pointing out that their actions had thwarted a plot of terror and safeguarded the state's population.

Additionally, he thanked the Taraba community for their help and valuable information, highlighting how crucial it is that they continue to support efforts to maintain security and peace.

"Together, we will continue to ensure a safer and more secure Taraba and Nigeria at large," Uwa said.
