The World Cup winner joins the likes of Raphael Varane and Hugo Lloris to call time on his international career
Atletico Madrid icon Antoine Griezmann has officially retired from international football at the age of 33 after 137 caps and 44 goals for Les Bleus.
The end of an era for Les Bleus
Griezmann shared the news on social media, marking the end of an illustrious decade-long international career.
The Atletico Madrid star has won a World Cup and Nations League with France and has been a key figure for Les Bleus since his breakout performance at the 2014 World Cup.
Griezmann expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt message on social media to announce his retirement, saying, "It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolor adventure and see you soon."
Griezmann's retirement leaves a significant void in the French national team, as he was a mainstay in Didier Deschamps' lineup, helping guide the team to the 2018 World Cup title and the 2020-2021 UEFA Nations League.
Didier Deschamps pays tribute to French "Monument"
As France coach Didier Deschamps prepares to name his squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures, Griezmann's absence will be felt both on the pitch and in the dressing room.
Deschamps responded to the news of Griezmann's retirement with an emotional tribute to the man he's worked with for the last ten years, saying, "Antoine was and will remain a monument of French football, one of the greatest players in its history.
"Beyond his 44 goals and 30 assists, his involvement in our success has been immense. Driven by a collective spirit at all times and a rare altruism among offensive players, Antoine has always brought honour to football and the blue jersey. He never cheated."
France will have to navigate their next internationals against Israel and Belgium in the UEFA Nations League without the Atletico Madrid star.
