Former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij has shed light on the uncertainty surrounding the release date of GTA 6.
GTA 4's Delay:
Vermeij explained that the decision to delay GTA 4 was made only four months before the original release date, indicating that Rockstar Games may not know if GTA 6 can hit the speculated 2025 release until next summer. According to Vermeij, Rockstar is unlikely to determine the release date until May, considering the game still has a year left in production.
Delay Possibility:
Vermeij acknowledged that a delay is a possibility, as the studio aims to ensure GTA 6 meets its high standards before launch. Despite mounting anticipation for the game, Vermeij believes Rockstar will prioritize quality over rushing the release.
No Rush:
Vermeij emphasized that GTA 6 is expected to have a long sales lifespan with no immediate competition, giving Rockstar the luxury to wait until they are completely satisfied with the game. He also mentioned that parent company Take-Two is unlikely to pressure Rockstar into releasing the game prematurely, allowing the studio to maintain autonomy in decision-making. With uncertainties looming over the release date of GTA 6, fans can only wait for further updates as Rockstar Games continues its development process.
