Man who attempted to assassinate the president of Comoros found dead

Following an attack on the president of Comoros, the assailant has been reported dead. The president of Comoros, Azali Assoumani, suffered a knife attack on Friday. The knife attack managed to cause an injury to the president's hands.

A report by BBC, revealed that Ahmed Abdou, the man who had attacked the president of Comoros on Friday, during the funeral for a well-known religious leader, in Salimani Itsandra, a town just north of the capital Moroni, has been found lifeless in his prison cell.

The authorities made the revelation after they discovered his body on the floor of the cell on Saturday morning.

The assailant was placed in a jail to calm down following his detention, according to national prosecutor Ali Mohamed Djounaid.

"A doctor declared him dead. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of his death," Mr Djounaid revealed during a press conference.

On the other hand, the president seemed to be "doing well," according to Ali Mohamed. He is safe and does not have any health issues. "The president is doing well. He has no health problems, he is out of danger. A few stitches were given," energy minister Aboubacar Saïd Anli said at a press conference in Moroni on Saturday.

The man had died before the reason for the attack was ascertained. Additionally, authorities are also unsure of what had led to the death of Ahmed Abdou.
