Man Utd want to sign £410,800 a year fullback before deadline - Report

Miguel Gutierrez of Girona

At this point, the left-back role in the Man Utd first-team squad almost has the outlook of a cursed position. One can't remember the last time Erik ten Hag went into a game with his left-backs fit and ready to play.

Luke Shaw has been in a vicious cycle of playing three games and missing out on the next ten for quite some time now.

Fans can be forgiven for forgetting that there is a player called Tyrell Malacia in the Man Utd squad considering how long it's been since his last appearance.

Right now, the most reliable left-back that Erik ten Hag has is Diogo Dalot, who is primarily a right-back. Man Utd might look at the market to address this situation and as per Spanish outlet, Fichajes, they want to sign £410,800 a year fullback, Miguel Gutierrez, from Girona.

The Red Devils are not the only club interested in the 23-year-old Olympic Gold Medalist. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have also been credited with interest in a player who contributed seven assists in the Spanish La Liga last term.

It's interesting to note that Gutierrez has a Real Madrid past, winning a double with the club in the 2021/22 season. Man Utd have signed quite a few players with Los Blancos history in recent seasons including Cristiano Ronaldo, Casemiro and Raphael Varane and that trend could be set to continue.

Erik ten Hag had a Spanish left-back with a Real Madrid history in his squad last season - Sergio Reguilon who is still available on the market. It looks like the club could continue down the same path by signing Miguel Gutierrez.

The 23-year-old is a flying full-back who loves to overlap which perfectly suits Marcus Rashford who plays from the left side of attack for Man Utd. Gutierrez has the engine to get up and down the pitch for ninety minutes and will allow the Red Devils #10 to operate more centrally.

With just days left until the transfer window slams shut, it's now or never for Man Utd to wrap up a signing for the left-back. It'll be interesting to see if the club indeed sign Gutierrez in the coming days to provide more tools at Ten Hag's disposal.
