Newcastle United fought back to secure a 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, but manager Eddie Howe's wait for a first victory against his former club as the Magpies boss continues.
The match at the Vitality Stadium was a tightly contested affair, with both teams showing intent from the outset, according to a report by Flashscore.
The visitors made a promising start, with Alexander Isak's dangerous cross in the early stages almost leading to an own goal as Julián Araujo, under pressure, headed the ball over his own crossbar. However, Bournemouth gradually found their rhythm and began to challenge Newcastle's defense. The Cherries' first significant opportunity came in the 19th minute when Evanilson tested Nick Pope with a powerful shot, but the Newcastle goalkeeper was equal to the task.
Antoine Semenyo nearly broke the deadlock in the 27th minute for Bournemouth. The forward unleashed a superb curling effort that rattled the crossbar, leaving the home fans gasping in frustration. As Bournemouth intensified their attacks, Marcus Tavernier's free-kick took a wicked deflection off the Magpies' wall, forcing Pope into an uncomfortable save to push the ball behind for a corner.
The pressure finally paid off for Bournemouth in the 37th minute. Semenyo capitalized on a mistake by Joelinton, dispossessing the Brazilian before driving into the box and delivering a low cross that Tavernier tapped in from close range, giving the hosts a deserved lead.
After the break, Bournemouth continued to press, and Semenyo remained a constant threat. His darting run into the box and subsequent cross nearly resulted in a second goal, but Evanilson failed to connect at the back post. In response, Howe made a double substitution before the hour mark, bringing on Harvey Barnes and another attacker to inject fresh energy into his side.
Barnes, in particular, began to influence proceedings and came close to leveling the score, but his shot was off target. Neto, Bournemouth's goalkeeper, was then called into action, making a crucial save to deny Joelinton from point-blank range.
Newcastle's persistence paid off in the 75th minute when Barnes outmaneuvered Araujo on the wing and delivered a precise cross to the back post, where Anthony Gordon was on hand to slot home the equalizer. The closing stages of the match saw both teams push for a winner, with Neto pulling off outstanding saves to deny Dan Burn and Bruno Guimarães, while Dango Ouattara had a late goal ruled out for handball.
In the end, both sides had to settle for a point, maintaining their unbeaten starts to the Premier League season.
