Manchester United include buyback clause in 8th summer transfer window sale

Manchester United negotiated a buyback clause in their agreement to transfer defender Will Fish to Cardiff City, according to Manchester World.

The 21-year-old completed his transfer to the Championship side on Friday and is eligible to play in their upcoming South Wales derby against Swansea City.

Earlier in the week, ManchesterWorld reported that Fish was undergoing a medical with Cardiff.

Both clubs have since confirmed the transfer, with Fish signing a contract extending until 2028.

United are receiving an initial fee of £1 million, with potential add-ons bringing the total to £3 million. Additionally, United has secured a buyback clause and a 30% sell-on clause.

This deal aligns with United's new transfer approach, which aims to manage academy graduates more effectively.

Although the upfront fee may seem modest, the potential for future earnings through sell-on clauses or buyback options can significantly boost the deal's value.

Fish, who made his senior debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a 17-year-old, has appeared only once for United.

His move to Cardiff is part of United's broader summer plan which also saw the departures of Alvaro Fernandez to Benfica, Mason Greenwood to Marseille,

Willy Kambwala to Villarreal, Maxi Oyedele to Legia Warsaw, Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos, Donny van de Beek to Girona, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham.
